Beat the Heat: 5 Cold Meal Ideas

With the temperatures soaring and no break in sight, most of us are feeling the heat. After a long sticky day in this weather, firing up your oven and cooking dinner can seem very unappealing, the house doesn't need to get hotter than it already is! Opting for a cold dish that needs minimal cooking can be a life-saver, allowing you to keep your cool as much as possible. So keep your oven off and save yourself some stress! This doesn't need to be limited to just salads, there are so many dishes that are delicious cold, here are 5 of our favourites.

1. Cold Soba Noodles with Peanut Sauce (Vegan)

Cold noodles may sound strange at first, but they are strangely refreshing and very easy to cook! This recipe has a delicious peanut sauce for some added flavour and is packed with veggies.

2. Macro Bowls

Macro bowls are a great option because they are completely customisable and can be made with a mix of leftovers that you have in the fridge. They can easily be made to suit any dietary requirements and can be altered to keep cooking to a minimum. Aim to include a source of healthy fats, carbohydrates, protein and a rainbow of different veggies. 

3. Strawberry Poppyseed Salad

This salad is loaded with fruit and topped with a zesty strawberry poppyseed dressing, making for an extremely refreshing dish. Pick up some pre-cooked chicken breast to put on the top and keep your cooking to a minimum. 

4. Tahini Tuna Stuffed Avocados

Tinned tuna and cold salad ingredients make these stuffed avos an easy and very quick option. With tuna and avocado in there, they are also loaded in healthy fats and omega-3s. 

5. Classic Italian Pasta Salad 

Pasta salad is a summer classic that is easy to whip up and works perfectly either as a side dish or as a main. Make a big batch and keep it in the fridge for really efficient meal prep!
